Charlie Lake Elementary School
Year-end Newsletter
2015
Dear Parents & Guardians,
The 2014-15 school year has come to a close. I would like to wish all Charlie Lake families a wonderful and restful summer! I have very much enjoyed my time here at the school and look forward to continuing to work with staff, students and parents in the 2015-16 school year. A huge thanks to all parents who have continued to volunteer in our building in various roles in addition to supporting teachers as we move forward with learning. With the year-end comes time to say goodbye to staff that will be moving on to their future aspirations. Mrs. Carmen Leed will be leaving us for Ecole Central School of the Arts; Ms. Pellow will be moving to CM Finch in September as well as Ms. Ashley Walker leaves us for Upper Pine School. In addition, Mrs. Erin Johnson leaves us for Upper Pine School as well. A huge thank you to these four teachers for all of their efforts, dedication and care for our students. Other staffing changes in September include welcoming back Mr. Darryl Lo who will be taking a Kindergarten position; Ms. Carly Polnik will join our primary team as well as Ms. Joanna Hicks who joins our intermediate team. Both Ms. Polnik and Mrs. Hicks are from Prespatou Elementary Secondary School. Lastly, Mrs. Tanya Fearon will take on the role of Reading Recovery teacher and English as a Second Language Support teacher in September. Mrs. Cara Stephens will return as well as our primary and intermediate prep teacher in Fine Arts & French as a second language in addition to Mrs. Boyd who will take on primary prep as part of her teaching load.
The first day of school for the 2015-16 school year is on September 8th at 8:45 am. School is only a half day and return busses will run early that morning. Kindergarten commences on September 16th. Kindergarten teachers will be in contact with families early in the school year to ensure a smooth transition.
School Start-Up
School start up will commence with activities about social responsibility for all students with school-wide activities. Students will return to last year’s classes for the first 2-3 days until new classes are set. This will hopefully minimize the amount of transition for students. It is important that ALL students attend the first days as this helps us set up our classrooms and solidify numbers and divisions. The first day of school will commence with an assembly. Lists will be posted for students so they know where to go the first day. Please ensure your child has a snack for break that day. As always, parents are welcome to our assembly in the morning.
Transportation
If you have yet to pay your transportation charge, the School District offices are open until July 15th and will accept your registration and payment. Questions about bus routes can be directed to Transportation at 250-785-1577.
Message from PAC
PAC would like to thank all the hot lunch teams without whom we couldn’t run our hot lunch programs. We are looking for grade 6 volunteers to babysit for PAC meetings for next year. We are looking for a vice chair and a DPAC rep. Meet and greet open house Sept 21 and 1st PAC meeting of the year that evening.
Student Drop Off & Arrival
You may have noticed that our staff parking lot now has entry and exit signs. It is very much appreciated how parents and visitors are respecting these as it helps with the flow of traffic. Many thanks to those parents who are utilizing the parent parking lot as well. We are asking those parents whose children do not utilize bus as a mode of transportation to kindly not drop off your children until 8:30 am until such a time where additional supervision commences on the playground.
